Wingmans, Soho, London UK

Aaaah, Wingmans. I travel a little bit, as readers of this spicy little blog would have noticed. And prior to a trip to the UK, Wingmans crossed my path via social media. Just look at my own photo of their saucy wings, and you can see why I had to go there when visiting London...

But pics of bright orange wings don't tell the whole story! That's why I set up The Rules! So(ho), how does Wingmans front up? Let’s find out!

The Scores

  • The Specs: Drums and flats. And a touch on the small side. RATING 5.
  • The Sauce: Certainly not a Frank's based sauce. But that as evident and publicised going in. The sauce that Wingmans does have tastes like it might be made with an alcohol of some sort. Dare I risk embarrassing myself by suggesting vodka? RATING: 4
  • Crunch: No crunch, no crispiness! These wings have a breaded coating. Breaded wings soak up the sauce and result in a soggy texture. Not unpleasant at all. But I do prefer crunch and crispiness.  RATING: 4
  • Serving size & price/Value for Money: £11 for half a pound. About 12 wings/drums - making it near enough under AUD$2 per wing. That is, based on this site's average, actually good value. In the centre of London's Soho district. There you go! RATING: 7
  • Heat/spice level: Spicy! 9 wings in, and my nose was running. And I was chugging my IPA. Brilliant. After these wings, I was running with the OG definition of "Spicy cough". RATING: 5
  • Flavour: Tons of sauce, which is ace. But after 11 wings there was something I didn't like. Wouldn't want more than half a pound. Perhaps that's what happens when you detour from Franks!  RATING 6
  • Celery: Celery.  RATING: 5.
  • Dipping Sauce: Blue Cheese! RATING: 5
  • Other Stuff: Found a nice local IPA on the menu titled, ironically(?), Off Menu, by Camden Town brewing. 'Twas lovely and citrussy matching perfectly with the spicy wings.  As a venue, Wingmans is kinda like a swanky fast food joint. Its décor is at a classier level but, at heart, its a fast food joint. Nothing against that at all, it is what it is and it serves wings! RATING 7.

OVERALL RATING 48/80.

No Moist Towelette bonus points and, weirdly, a poor showing for Wingmans @ Soho. Looking at those saucy wings in my pic, you would have expected an excellent showing here but, they've come in at around "average". Rankings aside I'd say Wingmans is worth a go, if you find yourself in that part of the world.
