*Disclaimer* When I ordered and ate the wings from Wing Wings, it was following a 4 hour session at Haight St icon, Toronado. So I cannot vouch for the accuracy of my ordering on the day, aside from the constant driving force that there ain't no thing like a Buffalo Wing.
The Scores
- The Specs: Single flats and drums. RATING: 5.
- The sauce: Not Frank's Red Hot but extremely tasty all the same. The sauce was abundant, and somewhat redundantly, saucy! RATING: 5.
- Crunch: No crunch as such. These wings were certainly not steamed but they did not crunch satisfactorily. RATING: 5
- Serving size & price/Value for Money: 10 flats/drums for USD$15 - that's about $22 AUD, and not amazing value. RATING: 5
- Heat/spice level: Lovely level of heat. Could most certainly have eaten more. Rating: 8
- Flavour: Delicious. Whether due to my drunken ordering or not, these were not Buffalo Wings... but they were EXCELLENT. RATING 9
- Celery: Was there Celery sticks? No, there was not. RATING: 0.
- Dipping Sauce: Blue Cheese? No dipping sauce whatsoever. Rating: 0.
- Other Stuff: Wing Wings is not a large venue and seems to exist primarily on takeaways and delivery. That's OK, and as I sat on the few tables out on the Haight Street curb, I was comfortable and happy. In the fridge, there's a good selection of beer, including the all important IPA - I chose Bear Republic's Racer 5 on this occasion and it was perfect. RATING 8.
OVERALL RATING 45/80. No bonus points, as no moist towelettes were provided.
The first contemporary review for the page and, already, its obvious that wings that do not stick to the tried and traditional Frank's Red Hot, Celery, and Blue Cheese formula are going to fall behind. But this IS a buffalo wings review site, and so it has to be.
Wing Wings are serving up delicious wings, without doubt. If I was back in San Francisco, they would unquestionably be on my list. Great wings, but not (at least on my stumbling drunk visit) buffalo wings.
