Just to prove the last new review wasn't a fluke, here's another one! This time, a chicken joint that I've been following for a long time... and it finally happened; The Bird, Berlin!
But how was it? How were the wings? Is The Bird the word? Haven't you heard?
*Parental advisory* I'd had a few pints before this wing feast/review, so I'm a little sweary!
The Scores
- The Specs: Drums and flats. The sad, usual fare. RATING 5.
- The Sauce: Frank's. Butter. Fucking perfect. RATING: 10
- Crunch: Crunchy. Seasoned flour coating and deep fried. RATING: 8
- Serving size & price/Value for Money: 16€ for about 12 wings. Surprise, surprise, that's around 2 bucks a wing... RATING: 7
- Heat/spice level: Brilliant level of heat. Just brilliant. I want to eat these forever. RATING: 9
- Flavour: Its Franks, with butter - its buffalo wing flavour and it is glorious. RATING 9
- Celery: No celery. Carrots. I fucken hate that. RATING: 0.
- Dipping Sauce: Got ourselves a blue cheese dipping sauce here. It had a bit of a weird flavour but there was chunks! Huge chunks! RATING: 5
- Other Stuff: Whilst its an American style joint, there was no IPA on tap, to assist the wings. It is in Berlin, so mostly just German styles. The house Pils was fine. Wasn't an IPA though!
The lack of fruity hops aside, The Bird had a great atmosphere. Its an American restaurant with burgers and chicken; How can you go wrong? Absolutely heaving on the Friday night when we visited. RATING 8.
OVERALL RATING 61/80.
No Moist Towelettes. No Bonus Points. Disappointing. Not as disappointing as the lack of celery though - what am I supposed to dip in my blue cheese? The Wings? Well, yes, but I also need that celery blue cheese combo!
A MASSIVE 61 points, putting The Bird above my beloved Thornbury Local in 4th spot on the table! I would happily return to The Bird, and would absolutely order those fine wings again!
