The Alby, Canberra

'Twa a wild, stormy day in Australia's Capital City. So stormy was it that my scheduled companion for the day had the roof cave in due to storm waters. Alas, I was left alone at The Alby to eat buffalo wings all by myself...

But how were they? Did the wings create a storm of flavour on the roof of my mouth?

The Scores

• The Specs: Drums and flats. Standard. RATING 5.
• The Sauce: I think this was Frank's. Quite buttery. Described on menu as Buffalo and Buffalo is what I got. RATING 8
• Crunch: Crunchy. Seasoned flour and fried. RATING 9
• Serving size & price/Value for Money: 11 flats/drums. $19 per serve, coming in at just under $2 apiece. Which rates about par on a global scale, perhaps even a bit under par. RATING 8
• Heat/spice level: On a heat scale, this gives me pause to question myself - is it actually made with Franks? These wings were not hot enough. Moreover, the heat did a poor job of cutting through the buttery sauce. Nor was there a lot of sauce saturation… RATING 5
• Flavour: Tasty enough but very buttery. I certainly wouldn't want another serve. The buttery-ness and lack of real chilli heat means I’d struggle to order these even on a return visit. RATING 5
• Celery: No celery. RATING: 0.
• Dipping Sauce: Ranch RATING: 0
• Other Stuff: Local brewery, Bentspoke’s Crankshaft IPA on tap, the very perfect beer to go with spicy buffalo wings!  A few other big beer craft pretenders like Kosciusko also served. The ambience was that of a hotel bar, with TVs scattered around the place and clean, pine-coloured timber table tops. James Squire provided umbrellas in the outside areas… RATING 5.
  

OVERALL RATING 45/80. 

No Moist Towelettes. No Bonus Points. A long way from my favourite wings ever, and the overall rating reflects/proves that view. if you're ever in the area, they'll do the job. But, no celery, no blue cheese, and not really enough sauce coverage per wing means... you might be better off finding somewhere else.
