This review is perhaps more interesting to the Craft Beer Afficionados (nerds?) out there - I'm part of the tribe and that's why I grabbed the chance to head to Humble Sea Pacifica. A mere 20 minute drive from SFO, during a 12 hour layover, it was a no brainer.
To my delight, I found chicken wings on the menu! Not buffalo, so we must again take the rankings system with a grain of salt, but wings nonetheless. Also on the menu, a wonderful Tater Tots starter which is not wing related at all but is tremendous!
The Scores
- The Specs: Single jointed wings! Meaning each piece is both flats and drums! And there was 6 per serve! I shouldn't be so excited but its the first review to feature the double! RATING: 7.
- The sauce: Described as "Spicy Jalapeno marinated wings with a hot mustard glaze with pickled mustard seeds", the Humble Sea wings were always going to to struggle here, on a Buffalo Wings review site. NOT BUFFALO! RATING: 2.
- Crunch: A little bit of crunch here, purely from the cooking process. These are clearly not steamed or baked but, rather, deep fried. As wings should be. However, there's no flour/soda seasoning here, so the crunch is both remarkable and somewhat inconsequential. RATING: 6
- Serving size & price/Value for Money: USD$16 for 6 'boomerang' wings... That's about AUD $24. At this stage and in comparison, that's probably middling value but, really, not great. RATING: 5
- Heat/spice level: Low to medium heat level here. Rating: 6
- Flavour: Very tasty wings and devoured very quickly. However, I had no inkling to order more and instead ordered some of those seasoned and topped Tater Tots! RATING 7
- Celery: Was there Celery sticks? There was not. RATING: 0.
- Dipping Sauce: Blue Cheese? There was not. Rating: 0.
- Other Stuff: Strangely, as a Craft Beer fan, Humble Sea Pacifica really did not live up to the hype. Most of the menu is IPA, so that's great for the wing fan. None of the beers were outstanding, however, and the wings were not buffalo! And this is a buffalo wing rating site! RATING 6.
OVERALL RATING 39/80. No bonus points; no moist towelettes for post-wing clean up.
The lowest score so far at Ain't No Thing and, of course, that's largely because these are not, and never were, described as Buffalo Wings. Ultimately, they were tasty but I'm really not sure if Humble Sea Pacifica is a destination to return to or just another tick on the list...
