Bird Bang'n Chicken, Brunswick East, VIC

I was at a loose end last Sunday, the sun was out, and there was plenty of time left in the day... so I headed down to Bird (Bang'n Chicken) in Brunswick East to test out the buffalo wings that were quite well-reviewed by some journo at The Age...

And let me tell you, this is a milestone post! A moist towelette has made its appearance! Will the first ever Moist Towelette Bonus Points shake things up? The Rules will tell us!

The Scores

• The Specs: Drums and flats... Even though this is clearly the Melbourne norm, I still don't like it.  RATING: 5
• The Sauce: Not Franks, not buffalo. Even before i tasted these wings, I could smell the chipotle glory. As good as that is, that's really not how you make Buffalo Wings. The Rules are The Rules! RATING: 4
• Crunch: Excellent crunch due to perhaps both the 24 hour buttermilk marinade and a clear seasoned coating, befre a trip to the hot oil. RATING: 8
• Serving size & price/Value for Money: 15 bucks for 7 single-jointed wings. The more wing venues I try, the more that $2-ish per wing is the norm. But, unless you're giving me single or double jointed wings, I'm not calling that great value. RATING: 5
• Heat/spice level: These were genuine hot wings! Not too hot that you'd need a jug of milk, but decently hot that my nose was off and cantering by the end! RATING: 8
• Flavour: Delicious wings. No getting around it. Would I eat a second serve? Yes I would. But not in a hurry - there was some good heat here! Chipotle, or Buffalo, or whatever, flavour is flavour! RATING 8
• Celery: Was there Celery sticks? No! RATING: 0.
• Dipping Sauce: Blue Cheese? Yes Blue Cheese! It was a weird kind of smooth blue cheese sauce though, with no chunks. RATING: 5. 
• Other Stuff: Cool, almost posh fit out at Bird. Made me feel like I should have worn shoes and long pants to eat my buffalo wings. Kaiju Metamorphosis IPA on tap and an excellent partner for a hot wing. Lovely, patient service, especially as two older gents from another table tried to quibble with how they would split their bill... for 10 minutes! RATING 7
• Bonus Points: Finally, we see our first moist towelette! Absolutely key to every finished serve of wings, yet rarely provided. Bonus Points: 5.

OVERALL RATING 55/80. 

A massive score! Bird rockets in and claims the 2nd place on The Wing Rankings! OK, so we again see how the key details have an effect - moist towelette, blue cheese sauce, and that's 10 points right there.
